Rwanda’s tourism strategy places conservation, biodiversity, and community stewardship at the centre of its national identity. With three distinct national parks Akagera, Volcanoes National Park, and Nyungwe Forest Rwanda offers a rare diversity of landscapes and wildlife within a compact geography.
Habitat XR was commissioned to develop an immersive experience that could communicate this richness on the global stage. Designed for international travel and trade platforms, the project was used to introduce Rwanda to tourism operators, investors, and conference organisers through emotionally compelling, high-quality visual storytelling.

Promoting eco-tourism at a global scale remotely requires more than brochures or traditional video. Rwanda needed a way to communicate the full scope of its natural heritage and conservation success in a format that could cut through crowded international expos and trade events.
There was also a need to unify Rwanda’s diverse ecosystems into a single, coherent story. Potential visitors needed to understand not just individual parks, but how wildlife, landscapes, and communities are connected through a national commitment to conservation and sustainable tourism.

Habitat XR developed a cinematic virtual reality experience that effectively “teleports” audiences to Rwanda. Through sweeping visuals, iconic wildlife encounters, and immersive soundscapes, viewers are taken across the country’s national parks and landscapes in a single, seamless journey. The experience was designed for tourism operators, investors, conference organisers, and global audiences.
The experience includes a visual map of Rwanda that situates each park geographically, helping audiences understand the country’s scale and ecological diversity. By capturing flagship species, dramatic terrain, and moments of coexistence between people and nature, the experience presents Rwanda as both a premier tourism destination and a global leader in conservation practice.

The project was deployed at major international platforms including global travel indabas and Expo 2020 Dubai, where it served as a high-impact introduction to Rwanda’s eco-tourism offering. The cinematic content reached millions of viewers worldwide, significantly extending Rwanda’s visibility beyond the physical exhibition spaces.
Beyond tourism promotion, the experience helped position Rwanda as a global standard-setter in conservation and community involvement. By foregrounding sustainable practices and local stewardship alongside natural beauty, the project reinforced Rwanda’s reputation as a destination where tourism, biodiversity, and community development are deeply intertwined.

“As the world celebrates Earth Day for the 50th time, we hope people enjoy this virtual experience of trekking through the jungle and interacting with the gentle giants of Volcanoes National Park from the comfort of their homes”
